Auburn shocks LSU ...
Tide plays the Bayou Bengals this Saturday...
Key game for both teams...
Will Saban save Bama hoops?

We knew it was going to happen. It just came sooner than later. The Tigers go on road to LSU and whip the purple and gold. I thought that perhaps the Tigers might beat Missouri or Mississippi State on the road. All in all the first season of Bruce Pearl has been pretty bad. Then they go on the road and beat a team that was on a list of SEC teams headed to the NCAA. If you are an Alabama fan it's kind of scary. Auburn has a top 20 recruiting class coming in next season. Alabama has an underrated class on board in my opinion. The Tide's recruits are long on athleticism if nothing else. We also have a 6-10/11 post player who has put up some gaudy numbers his senior year. He is exactly what Alabama needs. The fight for supremacy in the  State of Alabama is far from over, and the Tide isn't going to back down. Let's face it squarely eye to eye. It's going to be different. And it's not going to be easy.

The question most Tide fans is a simple one. If Auburn can recruit good players why don't we? Why haven't we? We have had our share of good recruits. It's easy forget Trevor Releford and remember Trevore Lacey transferring. Shannon Hale was an unheralded prospect  in the eyes of many fans, but he's making great progress, and he'll be here for four years. Granted, Jimmy Taylor isn't an offensive threat, but he more than holds his own under the boards, and he will be here four years. Same thing for Ricky Tarrant. Levi Randolph and Rodney Cooper are each four year players. So my question is - is it better to get potential four year players to enter your program, learn the ropes, stick around, and look for good things down the road. We are never going to be Kentucky. It just isn't going to happen unless the Tide invests a boatload of money and new attitude around Coleman Coliseum. Each of those two things can be done. My bet is they won't. Unless, and this is going to seem like an odd unless Saban wants it to happen. Why would I say that? My bet is that Nick Saban is going to be our AD and he won't accept second place in anything. I mean if we had a hop-scotch team we'd have the best one in the SEC.

My hope for great basketball lies in hopes that Saban will be our AD sooner or later. Why not sooner and later? I'm sure Bill Battle is a great guy. Really, I'm not sure of anything about Battle, except he won't step forward and pronounce his intention to making Alabama basketball a first-class operation. If he doesn't I guarantee you that Auburn will. If they can't beat us in football they would love to beat us in basketball. It might not be more than a band-aid for losing 80% of their games to the Tide football team. If we really want to have a great program then it going to take steel resolve. Think of anyone better than Nick?
