TIDE INJURIES KEY IN SELECTION
LEVI RANDOLPH IS IMPORTANT TO TIDE'S CHANCES...
The Tide needs to win at least one of two possible remaining games to be considered for an invitation to the NIT. This, according to a source very familiar with the selection process. I have known this gentleman for over 35 years and see no reason not to believe his opinion. Further complicating the Crimson's hopes also hinge on late season injuries to Ricky Tarrant and Shannon Hale. On the plus side, Levi Randolph will elevate the chances of Alabama making the field. He's worth the price of admission.
One thing the selection committee will be closely watching is whether or not this Alabama team can be competitive despite injuries. I think the team has answered that already, but a win over Texas A&M, would be hard to ignore. Regardless, of how you feel about our coach, the rest of the season should be about our team. It sickens me to see "fans" say they won't watch Alabama play today. Goals change, circumstances change, things happen good and bad. For this Alabama team it seems to be all bad. That doesn't mean we shouldn't support them. I'd make an argument to the fans that it means we should support them even more.
Say whatever you want to say about this team. I'm going to remember them as a gallant, hard working bunch that refuses to quit trying. That says a lot about those kids, and the man who leads them. I wonder how any of us would play under the type of pressure and criticism directed at this team. This team isn't going to be remembered like many of the great teams in Alabama history. They have had a different role in the legacy of Alabama history. I think they are a group that we should love, and make all of us shamed at a lot of things that have been said.
We are a fickle and immature lot. If Grant comes back next season and has a great season he'll will be praised. That's what one season can do to sway the loyalty of Alabama fans. The last two seasons have been tough. That doesn't mean upcoming season have to be that way. The lesson I think I've learned about all this is if you love a school you stick with the teams regardless of the circumstances. Anything less must makes us petty. The reason this team means so much to me is that it mirrors of life of so many people. How many people have we all known who just give up? How few people we know that refused to do so, and changed the outcome of their life? That's why I won't give up on this team or their coach.
I don't think Alabama will win today. The Aggies are a good team playing at home. They have more players than the Tide. If basketball was merely a 5 on 5 game and substitutions not allowed I'd like our chances. That just isn't the way the game is played. Here's one thing I've noticed as the years creep by - losing doesn't make you a loser. Alabama is going to win bigger in the future. Today, my job is to support this team, and our coach. If we get a new coach I'll support him also.

Is the Tide still competitive?

What a courageous team we have this season...
